A LEAGUE ABOVE THE DEVIL | PART 9

IN THE AMBULANCE, WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.

Time became irrelevant at that very moment.

Seconds became hours, and hours became mere seconds.

Where was Sharna?

In a state of never-ending darkness.

In a void only she could comprehend as she strove to look for a sacred spark in such emptiness.

Was she dead?

Or was she dying?

Was this how death felt like, living in dark isolation, with nothing to hear, nothing to see and nothing to feel?

She had to get back to herself..

She needed to.

I’d take much bigger sacrifices if I have to, as long as we can accomplish our goals.

Sharna remembered her words and held onto them.

I’d take much bigger sacrifices..

This was all part of the plan.

She was a part of the plan.

And plans needed to be carried out with extreme care and deadliest sacrifices.

“We are losing the patient!”

One of the mafia doctors cried out as Sharna’s blood gushed between his fingers, oozing all over his hands. It had spread into his uniform, the bright red viciously darkening, ultimately taking on a brown hue.

First-aid was given.

Direct pressure on the wounds to control the bleeding was applied.

Clean gauze was wrapped where necessary.

But they were not enough.

Treating two bullet wounds were not a piece of cake, especially if the victim was in her fifties. The body wasn’t the same as before—it was not strong and rapidly healing. But instead, it was a challenging task, and the only way to save her was going to that specific location.

To get to him.

Sharna was coming back to her senses, yet losing her consciousness all over again.

Her life stood on a thin line, and all the screams and sirens blaring throughout the ride were not enough to keep her fully awake.

Was she going to make it?

“Lose the police car now! We can’t wait any longer.”

The police car following them was just doing its job—follow the ambulance to the hospital, await for Sharna’s recovery before taking her statement.

But the ambulance had a tale of its own.

It had to get to him.

The ambulance driver pushed on the gas pedal as he accelerated, creating a distance and stretching further and further away from the police car.

There was the schemed lorry traffic right ahead, and it was only a matter of seconds before the ambulance driver passed the difficult task, losing the police completely.

In other words, the lorries successfully blocked the path, preventing the squad car from going any further.

After a few minutes, the ambulance turned off its siren as to not attract any attention.

But it was not the end of the mission.

The next task barely started.

“If we don’t get to the boss NOW, she won’t make it out alive.”

“No.” The driver replied. “If she doesn’t make it out alive, none of us will.”

—————————

Sharna, with her eyes closed, was sleeping like an angel.

Or was she a monster lying in wait for the next attack?

The ambulance successfully arrived at the location just in time Sharna received a hypovolemic shock. It was due to losing too much blood from the bullet wounds.

The mafia doctors took great care of her during the lengthy operation, and now she was sleeping peacefully in his modernly-designed safe house.

Sharna is a survivor. He mused. Wake up now, I need you.

He stood over her bed, both arms rested behind his back.

One of the mafia doctors walked in to explain about Sharna’s case.

“She will take a few days to recover, Boss. She went through a lot of physical and mental trauma. They will subside once she’s well-rested and given a lot of care.”

“Go on.”

“One of the bullets hopefully passed through the soft tissues without damaging any adjacent vital structures. But the other one.. it did passed close to her spine. It will take months for her to be able to walk again.” The mafia doctor said, before continuing. “She needs a specialist who will give her medical-physical activities so she doesn’t stay bedridden.”

Bedridden. Sharna is flawed. He thought.

“I will do what is necessary. Anything else?”

The mafia doctor only explained the list of things he was supposed to do for Sharna’s speedy recovery. Then, bowing his head in a respectful manner, the mafia doctor eventually left him alone with her.

The beeping from the monitor was the only sound echoing around the room, yet his mind raged with thoughts.

He was so close to his goal, yet Sebastian interfered in his plans.

Sebastian was not meant to know the truth.

Possibly not now, nor ever.

If the boy was going to make his life difficult, then he would take it as a challenge.

Even if that challenge ended with Sebastian’s death.

It took years for him to fashion such a perfect scheme, and he wouldn’t allow anyone to fuck it up.

He would take all the lives in the world if he had to, because there were no boundaries for him.

If he couldn’t be the devil, then he would be god.

Even the devil would give him a standing ovation if such was possible.

Who was he?

He was someone who could burn the altar for fun and close the gates to Heaven with bloodied hands.

Oh, but to define him was limiting his capabilities.

And capabilities he had plenty.

“Wake up, Sharna.”

His voice travelled around the room, and mere silence echoed back.

Sharna had to get back on track, or he had to take matters in his own hands.

Like he was doing now..

As if on queue, one of his men knocked and entered the room, saying. “Boss, the package is ready.”

He flashed a sinister smile even the angels would sin to get a glimpse of.

Who was he?

To define was to limit.

If Sharna was a league above the devil, then he was the league of all evil.
