A LEAGUE ABOVE THE DEVIL | PART 3
That’s it. I can no longer go on pretending like Sharna is the aunt I thought I knew. Not after what I just heard. Screw pretending.
Allowing a cold rage to possess me, I reach behind me and withdraw the pistol from the waistband of my jeans. In mere seconds, the muzzle presses against her temple, and my trembling finger upon the trigger, taking Sharna who was reaching for her book by surprise.
Before she can act the part of a clueless sensitive aunt, I shout to let her know that I’ve damn well heard everything. “Who did you kill?! Don’t you dare lie to me because I swear I will shoot your empty head right here, right now.“
My serious yet furious tone making it clear I mean every word. “Your life means shit to me now, you miserable lying piece of shit. Start talking!”
After staring for what seemed like a full minute at the trembling gun pointed at her, she finally opens her mouth. Her voice malicious, loud, as she too, gets to the point. “I did it. I killed them. And you know what? I don’t regret a damn thing!”
My gaze blazing with anger as the veins protrude in my forehead. Any hesitation I had felt vanishes as I unmercifully jam the gun deeper in her temple and shout. “Killed WHO? WHO did you kill!?”
Her face indicating no remorse, no sadness as she holds my steady gaze and admits, not caring that I can pull the trigger at any moment. “Your PARENTS!”

THE REMAINING FIVE MINUTES. . .
— SHARNA’S POINT OF VIEW
Once.
Twice. .
The gunshots were loud, almost deafening, their impact causing me to stumble backwards, and for a moment, everything went still.
The whole world paused, only silence remained.
Sebastian’s eyes bore in mine, the hatred was what kept me going. His hatred was what kept me standing despite gravity wanting to pull me down.
If I would die, I would take him with me.
I would take them all with me.
Sebastian. Alina. Alyas. His wife.
If Sebastian thought burying bullets within me would halt the monster from surfacing, he had to rethink his revengeful tactics.
Because Sharna Arslan would never die.
And that was what kept me standing.
The shots. The adrenaline. They kept me alive. The will to live was fierce, because I was not done sucking the world dry.
“Wander where you want, Sebastian.. But remember.. remember to find your way back home.
To.. me.”
My voice grew fainter, yet the resolve was there.
I never intended to let go of Sebastian..
. . .or my quest for revenge.
I would find a way to make it work. And I already did.
The last thing I heard were the sirens of police cars and ambulance, knowing I would be in safe hands soon.
It was only a matter of minutes.
And as if on queue, the whole world turned black.
—————————
The sirens blared louder and louder, signalling that they were close. Yet the gun still trembled in Sebastian’s hands.
Was Sharna dead? She was motionless on the floor.
Did he feel any better?
Was it the end of a lifelong revenge?
“Did you get the answers you needed, Sebastian?” Alina’s voice brought him back to the present, but her tone didn’t help at all. Because what she said was true.
The woman was probably dead on the floor, and the unanswered questions kept on pressing in his mind.
Why did Sharna kill his parents?
Why did Sharna frame The Soliovos for the murders /she/ committed?
Why did Sharna have an affair with Alyas Soliovos in 1997?
“Give me the gun. The police is coming.” Alina again. This time, she took the gun from Sebastian and wiped off the fingerprints with her shawl. “What happens here, stays here. Don’t say anything to the police.” Afterwards, she slid the gun away as far as she could, so as not to raise any alarms that they were more than suspects.
“No. I’ll shoot her a third time. Just to make sure the bitch stays dead.” Before he could move, Alina abruptly shoved him close to her so he wouldn’t make another stupid mistake again.
She was the one who moved the gun at the last minute, hoping the third bullet wouldn't hit Sharna. Sebastian could be mad at her for the rest of his life, but she needed to do this for him.
She had to do this for him.
And.. for herself.
Because she needed answers too.

“What the hell happened in here? A shootout because aunty didn’t like the girl?”
Commissioner Zayne Berkes stood amidst the mess as the paramedics took Sharna away after being told she was running on low pulse.
She was fighting for her life, and in Zayne’s eyes, Sharna was the key to unravel what actually happened. Because as far as he knew, dumb and dumber wouldn’t utter a single thing.
When did murderers ever confess to their crimes at first try?
“Commissioner, we found the weapon.”
The gun was placed in a plastic bag and handed over to Zayne, and it was still hot to the touch, as if recently fired.
“Send in the Crime Scene Investigators. There might be more evidence lying around.” Handing the plastic bag back to the officer, Zayne wandered back to where Sebastian and Alina stood in silence.
The guy looked like he was going to erupt anytime soon, and the girl was being his centre of calmness.
“I’d like to apologise in advance. You won’t stay together in the same cell. And I’d like to apologise further. You won’t stay in the same prison. So how about.. you detach yourselves so I can question you separately?”
This made Sebastian take a menacing step forward, but as usual, Alina was the anchor tying him down from punching Zayne.
“Impressive.” With an eyebrow raised in amusement, Zayne watched the couple before Alina finally spoke up.
“Ask us your questions then let us go.”
“Oh, princess. Are you in a hurry somewhere? To bury your next victim, perhaps?”
Before Alina could reply, Sebastian was in Zayne’s face, backing him away from her.
“Ask your questions—” or I’ll bury you next.
Zayne eventually led them to the dining room, taking a seat and waiting for them both to do the same.
Being an asshole by nature, it was one of Zayne’s many talents when dealing with people like Sebastian. The more relaxed he seemed, the more Sebastian was going to turn the whole mansion upside down.
At some point Sebastian would make a mistake, and Zayne was lying in wait for that particular moment to catch him red-handed.
“So, thank you, your majesties. Summarising what happened: We have two criminals, one murder weapon, and an old woman fighting for her life.
To cut to the chase, which one of you did it?”
“Aren’t you supposed to interrogate us separately?” Alina asked.
Leaning comfortably against his seat, Zayne answered.
“I’m just enjoying your innocent faces before I rip off your masks in the interrogation room.”
